ASU Concert will feature Concert Band and Wind Ensemble

(03-02-2016)

The Adams State University Department of Music will present the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.

The Concert Band will be playing some favorites of the traditional band literature. Their portion of the program includes Flourishes for Wind Band, by Vaughan Williams; Alpine Meadow, by Steven Hodges; Blue Ridge Saga by James Swearingen; Rain by Brian Balmages; and January, February, March by Don Gillis, the favorite of Dr. Angela Winter, Adams State director of bands.

The Wind Ensemble will perform a minimalist work by Terry Riley. The piece, titled In C, is historically significant because it was the first of its nature and had a major influence on modern composition. "This is a piece that is more of an experience than simply something to sit and listen to. No two performances are the same," Winter said.

Admission is free to Friends of Music and members of Associated Students and Faculty; $1 for all other students and $5 general admission. For more information contact the Adams State Music Office at 719-587-7621.
