In recognition of his enthusiasm and constant participation as a volunteer, the Adams State College Nursing Department named Richard Hartman "Volunteer of the Year", for 2010/20111. He will accept the honor at a free BBQ, open to anyone interested in nursing, at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, in Alamosa Cole Park.

According to Allison Bennett, nursing simulation lab coordinator, Hartman volunteered the most hours. "We see him here in the lab at least once a week." He volunteered hours for Adams State and Trinidad State Junior College students, acting as a patient and participating in the haunted house fundraiser. "We appreciate Richard and his service to our community by assisting with the improvement of the quality of healthcare education in the San Luis Valley," Bennett said.
