All welcome to holiday reception at ASC's Marvel House

Community members are welcome to come enjoy warm refreshments at the Adams State College Marvel House, 1415 Second St., prior to the city's train lighting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 21. The reception will be hosted by Adams State President David Svaldi and his wife, Virginia, from 4-5:30 p.m.

The annual train lighting festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the County Courthouse on Fourth and San Juan.

The public will have an opportunity to tour the newly renovated Marvel House, built in 1929 on the corner of Richardson Ave. and Second Street. Once again in service as the college presidents residence, the Marvel House is listed in the City of Alamosa's Historic Registry. The college's first president, Dr. Ira Richardson, lived there until 1950. The Svaldis took up housekeeping in late July.

The Board of Trustees for Adams State College named the residence "The Marvel House" in April 2005, in recognition of the impact made on Adams State by its fourth president, Dr. John Marvel, and his wife, Frances. He was president from 1966-77, a period of marked growth and change for the college.
