New ASC student trustee is Scally

Kenneth Scally believes his experience as a student athlete and nursing student will provide a needed perspective on the Board of Trustees for Adams State College. He is the student trustee for the current academic year.

He said over 35 percent of Adams State students are athletes, and believes the Associated Students and Faculty Senate (AS&F) lacked student athlete representation. "The concerns of the student athletes need to be heard." He plans on speaking on behalf of nursing students, student athletes and all students at AS&F and Board of Trustee meetings.

As the student trustee, Scally is required to attend all Board of Trustees meetings and submit reports to the AS&F. In order to qualify for the position, Scally had to be a Colorado resident for at least three years, be an undergraduate student, and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.

Scally believes his position on the board will be equally beneficial for campus and students. "As a student athlete, I have the responsibility to better Adams State." He describes his experiences this semester as a balancing act between football, senate, and academics. Nevertheless, he said testing his ability to focus on all of his responsibilities will help him become a stronger person in the future.

Board of Trustees Chair Tim Walters commends Scally for his dedication. "Kenneth will be a trustee that will take the campus needs and interests to heart. He will be an excellent representative of our student body."

Scally's career goals include working for Flight for Life and eventually becoming a nurse practitioner.
