Adams State hosts local career fair


The Adams State College Counseling and Career Center will host a Fall Local Job Fair for students and alumni. The event will take place from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Student Union Building Banquet Rooms.

Brian Rauscher, Career Services coordinator, organized the event. He said it is an opportunity for students to learn from employers, receive information about future jobs, and learn about organizations in the San Luis Valley and what they represent.

Over a dozen employers currently hiring for a wide range of jobs and internships in the San Luis Valley will be present. Attendees are encourages to wear professional attire and bring copies of their resumes. Rauscher encourages potential employees to understand employers are observing to see if they fit with the organization and the culture, it starts with how you appear. "I always encourage job seekers to error on the side of over-dressing."

Employers currently planning on attending the job fair include, Crossroads Turning Points, Inc., Sherwin Williams, Walmart, State Farm Insurance, KRZA, La Puente Home, Rainbow's End Thrift Store & Milagros Coffee Shop, USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service, Boys & Girls Club, and the SLV Prevention Coalition. Rauscher said employers not currently hiring are invited to come and talk about their organization and internships that could benefit students.

Workshops on how to prepare for the career fair will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 and at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Student Union Building room 309. Contact the Office of Career Services for assistance in writing and revising resumes or any other career-related questions.

A spring 2012 career fair is currently scheduled for March 1, and is open to national, regional, and local employers.
