The Alamosa Fire Department will host a memorial for the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 on Sept. 11. The memorial will begin with a silent apparatus procession at the Alamosa Fire Department Station 1 starting at 9:30 am. The silent procession will proceed to the Adams State campus, stopping in front of the Rex Gymnasium.

At 10 a.m., participants will regroup in front of the Rex Stadium where the Alamosa Police Color Guard will lead the crowd into the stands of Rex Stadium for the ceremony. There, the Alamosa Police will perform a 21-gun salute and the Adams State trumpet players will play. Thereafter there will be a moment of silence, followed by a rendition of “Amazing Grace.”

A stair climb will begin at approximately 10:30 am at the Rex Stadium, and the event is open to all of the AS&F community. Guides will be posted detailing how many stairs participants must climb in order to climb the equivalent of one of the towers.

Chris Rodgers, speaking on behalf of the Alamosa Fire Department, said he hopes the memorial will send a message to the Alamosa community. “We will not forget the tragedy, heroism, and sacrifices made that day on Sept. 11, 2001,” Rodgers said.
