Annual Adams State Cook-Off announces award recipients


With nearly 200 ballots counted and 25 entries, the 2012 Adams State College Autumn@Adams Fifth Annual Cook-Off was a success. Award recipients include, pictured left to right, Justin Atencio, second place green chile and second place salsa; Jordan Malouff, first place watermelon seed spitting contest – 20 feet, age 10 and under; David Mize, second place red chile; Jo White, first place green chile; Maria Valdez, first place salsa; Mildred Mondragon, third place salsa, third place green and best table award; Esther Lopez, first place red chile; Valerie Gsoell and Dr. Mari Centeno, on behalf of the Adams State Model United Nations Club, third place red chile.

Not pictured, Chris Nyquist, jalapeño eating contest winner – eating 11 jalapeños in 3 minutes; and Katy Melvin, first place watermelon seed spitting contest winner – 22 feet age 10 and up.
