Dear Grizzly Family:
We know you are excited to have your child make this important transition to becoming an Adams State University Grizzly. We too are excited and look forward to their successful beginning and most importantly to their degree completion just four years away. We know your student’s future will be transformed and we are excited to share information about the many great opportunities available at Adams State.
The fall beginning is important and we take our responsibilities very seriously. I also want you to know the health and safety of our entire Grizzly Family will always be our top priority at Adams State University. Life on campus may look a bit different than in previous years due to the global pandemic we all are experiencing. However, we believe our plans for a Safe Return to Campus with new health and safety protocols and policies allows us to move forward with in-person learning. To ensure our goal of a healthy campus it will require the commitment of every community member as we each must adhere to new practices and protocols.
We are anxious to share information with you and want you to know important details to assist you in preparing your child for life at Adams State University. We invite you to attend our virtual Fall 2020 Family Q&A Forum. Student Orientation is proceeding as planned on campus, in person, and is mandatory for first-time students and highly encouraged for transfer students. We know how important helping your student transition to being a college student is for you, and we are committed to helping you prepare for the transition in just a few short weeks. We are holding the virtual Family Q&A Forum instead of a face-to-face parent orientation as we have in previous years. We trust you understand the need to shift to a virtual format for parent orientation.
Our Fall 2020 Family Q&A Information Forum will be held via Zoom weblink or call-in number. You will be joined by several Adams State University professionals representing student support services across campus for a presentation followed by an open question and answer conversation. You will find the information invaluable as you prepare your new college student to arrive at Adams State Aug 20-23 for New Student Orientation (NSO). The live Family Q&A Forum will be an excellent way to keep you included in this important transition for your child moving from your home to our Adams State campus.

We encourage you to attend one of the Family Q&A sessions. However, if you are unable to attend, here are a couple of important items to consider as you are planning to help your student get ready for campus life:
In order to provide a smoother check-in process and to minimize gatherings in large numbers, we are encouraging the following date and time schedule for your student’s Housing Check-in for the Fall semester:
- Thursday, August 20th 8:00am – 12:00pm, Students whose residence is within 200 miles of Adams State University
- Thursday, August 20th 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Students whose residence is greater than 200 miles from ASU
- Friday, August 21st 8:00am – 10:00am, Students whose residence is located within the San Luis Valley
Our Residence Hall lobby desks will be open August 20th – 23rd from 8:00am – 8:00pm to provide check-in services for those students who are unable to check-in within the suggested times. Questions may be directed to: email@example.com or 719-587-7227.
2-hour Campus Limit
Families are to limit their time on campus to a 2-hour timeframe to help their students move-in and take care of any University business and final details to start the fall semester.
We ask families and students to connect with any University departments to schedule appointments, make payments, or any other items before arriving to campus. Many items can be taken care of online or over the phone for your convenience. If you cannot attend one of the live Q&As Forums and need assistance with campus information or services, please contact the One Stop or the Orientation team. We are happy to help! Health and Safety
Masks and practicing 6-feet social distancing are required of all individuals at all times while on campus. If you are experiencing illness or COVID-19 symptoms, we ask you not to enter the campus. Any person experiencing a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be asked to leave campus immediately. We also please ask you not to bring anyone to campus who is displaying any symptoms. If your student is displaying any COVID-19 symptoms within two weeks of our New Student Orientation, we ask you to seek medical care in your hometown [and if needed to keep your student at home].
