The FitWELL program provides Adams State University’s students and campus community with programs and services that are designed to enhance one’s physical, mental and spiritual well-being. The FitWELL program aspires to create a happy and healthy campus through an environment that is welcoming, inclusive and responsive to the needs of its participants.
FitWELL’s mission is to provide education, personal development and tools to foster long-term, healthy lifestyle choices. We will empower and support Adams State’s students and community to dedicate themselves to finding balance, fitness and wellness in their lives.
Grizzly X Group Fitness
HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training and is a type of training that involves repeated periods of high intensity effort followed by varied amounts of recovery time. HIIT training has been shown to improve aerobic/anaerobic fitness, blood pressure, cardiovascular health, cholesterol, abdominal fat and body weight while maintaining muscle mass. These classes are modified and designed for all fitness levels.
Kickboxing Step Class
This class is a combination of aerobics, boxing and martial arts. The class is inspired by martial arts but includes some upbeat music and movement to get an overall cardio workout. This class will improve your strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. So if you're bored with your regular ol’ workout come and check it out!
ZumbaThis fun and exhilarating class is designed to bring people together to have some fun and sweat! This class uses Latin and World inspired music to get your body moving as you follow the lead. The music and moves are intoxicating-No Dance Experience Required. You’ll definitely leave with an overall workout of cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, flexibility, and boosted energy. Come join the party!
Mind and Body Classes
This is an all-level yoga class that is created to promote the overall health and healing potential of the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. This class is inspired by Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa and Kundalini Yoga as well as Mindfulness. The class will infuse Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation to bring an overall therapeutic approach to Yoga-the union of one’s body, mind and spirit.
Relax & Unwind Yoga
This class will incorporate a mixture of various yogic techniques to help you get over the “hump” and relax so that you can finish your week well. This class may include combinations of Yin and Flow Yoga as well as Breathwork. Come relax and release tension in your mind, body and spirit so that you can feel completely nourished and ready to head home and off to a good night’s sleep. This class is suitable for all levels of experience.
In the Yogic discipline the morning is considered a “divine time” and is known as the most important time to connect with one’s inner spirit. Sunrise Yoga will bring clarity, creativity as well as peace to your mind and body. Sunrise Yoga will also provide you with the energy and nourishment you need for a positive attitude to tackle the challenges of your day.
Vinyasa yoga is a series of postures, one flowing seamlessly into the next, uniting the body, mind, and breath. Designed as a moving meditation, every Vinyasa class is unique; creating the opportunity to become stronger, more flexible and balanced, while practicing being present in the moment. All levels are welcome!
Black Belt Salsa & Bachata Class
Black Belt Salsa/Bachata is a progressive system of learning much like “martial arts,” where the student will be able to earn levels and degrees of dance progression per 4 week sessions. This class offers differentiated levels of dance instruction and students work where they are ready to learn with the help of an expert Latin dance instructor and student apprentices. Black Belt Salsa classes offer immediate feedback that builds honor, trust and respect for one another.
This class is built around averting and avoiding violent confrontation. The aim of this class is to provide students with the presence of the mind and basic physical skills to create the opportunity for fending or escape. Students should be prepared for pushing, shoving and tapping exercises. The class includes learning how to:
- Reduce the risk of finding ourselves in a dangerous social environment.
- Minimize the risk of a confrontation becoming violent.
- Seek flight paths
- Judge when defensive aggression is required
