Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision, M.A. in Counseling

The Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision at Adams State University prepares graduates for impactful careers as educators, supervisors, researchers, leaders, and practitioners in both academic and clinical settings. Students gain expertise in designing and delivering instruction, providing ethical supervision, generating and sharing scholarly work, and advocating for the counseling profession. The program emphasizes leadership development, professional credentialing, and the application of current trends and technologies in counseling, all supported through close mentorship from experienced faculty.
The M.A. program is designed to provide the human relations and therapeutic skills necessary to become a professional counselor. Through the M.A. Degree (both online and on-campus), students will meet four general competencies necessary to develop as mature and professionally competent counselors. The competencies include sound practical therapeutic and relational skills that reflect current practice, comprehensive theoretical knowledge base that can be integrated and transferred to effective counseling relationships and techniques, a strong counselor identity through involvement and participation in professional organizations, advocacy, trainings, workshops, seminars, or other continuing education opportunities and a self-aware and self-reflective stance that allows for growth and the personal dispositions necessary to work in the counseling field.
