Adams State University and the Department of Athletics announced today that Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Damon Martin is recovering at home following a medical emergency this past weekend.

On Saturday, November 8, Coach Martin suffered a heart attack. Thanks to the immediate response of medical personnel, he underwent successful surgery and has since been released from the hospital. His medical team has expressed optimism that he will make a complete recovery.

“We are deeply grateful for the quick action of the medical professionals who treated Coach Martin and for the outpouring of support from our campus and community,” said Athletic Director Katelyn Smith. “Damon is a valued and respected member of the Adams State family. He is beloved by his current runners, generations of alumni, and the entire community. We look forward to his full recovery.”

Coach Martin is now resting at home with his family. The university asks that the campus community and public respect the Martin family’s privacy during this time, allowing Coach Martin the necessary space and time to focus on recuperating.
