Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Mikal Boisson, Ph.D., recently took eight students to an Applied Sport Management Association (ASMA) conference in Philadelphia. An Adams State team finished 3rd in the case study research competition. It was the first year taking students to this competition. Other universities that attended included Temple University, University of South Carolina, Syracuse University, and University of Massachusetts, and more.

Director, Salazar Rio Grande del Norte Center Paul Formisano, Ph.D., attended the Water Workforce Summit and Career Fair at CSU Spur on February 12 and13 with water studies minor students Emiliano Hernandez and Quincy Macdonald. Dr. Formisano moderated the panel, “So We Need More People, Where Do I Start? Attracting and Transitioning Talent into the Water Workforce,” and facilitated the breakout sessions about the forthcoming Water Education and Workforce Resource Hub, which he has been helping develop with the Colorado Water Center, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, and other partners.
Director of First Year Seminar Jess Gagliardi, Ed.D., was elected as Vice Chair of the Colorado Faculty Advisory Council (CFAC). Dr. Gagliardi serves as the Adams State representative in CFAC. He joins CFAC chair, Dr. Melinda Picket-May of the University of Colorado Boulder, as the leadership team.
On February 6, the Adams State Chapter of FBLA Collegiate competed at the FBLA State Leadership Conference at Denver University. Club sponsors, Brittany Harlan, assistant professors of business, and AJ Webb, D.H.S., assistant professor NTT of management, escorted seven students who represented Adams State in a pool of eight different clubs from institutes of higher education all over Colorado. All seven students earned at least a one event second place finish and qualified for the National Leadership Conference in June 2026.

The Shakespeare Association of America selected Director of the Center for Teaching, Innovation, and Research Artemis Preeshl’s, Ed.D., paper, “From Demure to Daring: Love, Class, and Liberation in Love’s Labours Lost, The Merry Wives of Windor, and As You Like It,” to be presented in the “Representation, Politics, and Performance,” seminar in Denver in April 2026.
Ben J. Wilson, Ph.D., School of Counselor Education assistant clinical professor, served on the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) writing committee as a subject matter expert and author for the ASAM Criteria 4th edition Adolescent Volume over the last couple years. The newly revised ASAM Criteria 4th edition Adolescent Volume (print version) is scheduled for release on May 14, 2026, and the digital version will be available on March 31, 2026. “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to assist in the development of this volume as an author and subject matter expert, and I’m proud to represent Adams State University and the Department of Counselor Education.”
Dr. Wilson was invited to attend a special gathering to celebrate the achievement at the ASAM 57th Annual Conference later this year.
