Nursing Department Mission and Vision
Mission
The School of Nursing shares the mission of Adams State University. In addition, the mission of the Adams State University’s School of Nursing is to educate the next generation of nurse leaders. This will include cultural inclusivity, educational diversity, and service to evolving populations. This education will prepare individuals for successful integration into the profession of nursing. Students will be provided with an excellent theory-led and experiential learning environment, in an evidence-based educational program with a focus on professional nursing standards, patient safety, cultural diversity, community service and rural/community health care.
Vision
Each student who graduates from Adams State University’s School of Nursing will be a highly qualified, compassionate, and professional nurse who is able to personify a culture of care for individuals, families, and their communities.
BSN Program Goals
1. Translate, integrate, and apply knowledge for Nursing Practice including a foundation in liberal arts and natural and social sciences.
2. Deliver person-centered care which is holistic, individualized, just, respectful, compassionate, coordinated, evidence-based, and developmentally appropriate to individuals.
3. Participate in population healthcare and education that spans the healthcare delivery continuum from prevention to disease management, through a variety of community partnerships that include industry, academia, local government entities, and others, to improve equitable health outcomes in diverse populations.
4. Translate, apply, and evaluate nursing scholarship to improve health outcomes and transform healthcare through the integration of evidence-based practice.
5. Implement quality and safety in care delivery based on established and emerging principles of safety and improvement science to minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
6. Collaborate through interprofessional partnerships with care team members, patients, families, and communities, to optimize care, enhance the healthcare experience, and improve outcomes.
7. Coordinate resources to provide safe, quality, equitable, and cost-effective care to diverse populations across the continuum of care.
8. Use informatics and healthcare technologies to gather data, drive decision making, provide and accurately document care, and manage and improve the delivery of safe, high-quality, efficient healthcare services in accordance with best practice and professional and regulatory standards.
9. Form and cultivate a professional identity that demonstrates accountability, honesty, integrity, civility, a collaborative disposition, and behaviors that reflect nursing’s characteristics, values, and code of ethics in all personal and professional interactions.
10. Participate in activities and self-reflection that fosters personal health, resilience, and well-being, contributes to lifelong learning, and supports the acquisition of nursing expertise and the development of leadership skills and behaviors.
11. Demonstrate professional writing proficiency in accordance with the Nursing Profession.
Clinical requirements can be found in the handbook pages, 43-45. Travel will be required for clinical rotations. This travel may result in > 140 miles (2.5 hours) from ASU campus. Travel will result in additional costs associated with mileage, lodging and meals
Adams State University will welcome representatives of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) to campus during October 22-24, 2025 for an on-site evaluation of the baccalaureate degree program in nursing. This visit will figure as part of the CCNE accreditation process. CCNE procedures incorporate an opportunity for program constituents and other interested parties to submit written comments concerning a program’s qualifications for accreditation.
Pursuant with CCNE guidelines, all comments must be directed to thirdpartycomments@ccneaccreditation.org by October 1, 2025. Please note: All third-party comments submitted to CCNE must be written in English, consistent with CCNE’s policy on Conduct of Business in English. Adams State University views the accreditation process as a means to ensure the delivery of a high-quality learning experience that offers a rich and impactful training for future nurses. It encourages the submission of written comments that will provide CCNE with a thorough appreciation of the nursing program.
