David Bertolatus, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology, recently published an article, “Multi-omic responses of fish exposed to complex chemical mixtures in the Shenandoah River watershed,” in the journal Science of the Total Environment.

Matt Nehring, Ph.D., professor of physics and chair of the department of engineering and computer science was asked to contribute an evening lecture at the Great Sand Dunes National Park in association with their designation as an International Dark Sky Park. Dr. Nehring will present a related talk at the Lunchtime Talks in Science & Mathematics on September 20.

On August 2, Nick Saenz, Ph.D., acting assistant vice president of academic affairs and professor of history, presented a keynote titled “Mestizaje: On Being and Becoming” at the 2023 Aztlán Research Center Summer Institute.

On July 25th, Mathew Sharples, Ph.D. assistant professor of biology, gave a particularly well-attended talk at Botany 2023 in Boise ID, introducing a new field identification manual to the Flora of Nevada that he will submit for review and publication in 2024. “The manual was of high interest to the community because no comparable resource has ever been produced for the public, and is of high need for many types of folks at the moment, from the vast public land manager community across Nevada, to scientists and researchers, to the amateur botanist community.”
Dr. Sharples had two peer-reviewed manuscripts accepted recently and which are in press at the moment–more details in the coming months when they are released.

Brian Zuleger, Ph.D., professor sport psychology and chair applied sport psychology graduate program, served as a subject matter expert for job analysis to support continued maintenance and improvement of the Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) program for the Association for Applied Sport Psychology from December, 2022, until July 2023. Dr. Zuleger was an instructor for the sport psychology section of the United States Track and Field Association (USATF) Cross Country Specialist coaching education course in June.
In July, Dr. Zuleger presented on sport psychology to high school cross country coaches at the Colorado High School Coaches Association Clinic. He also gave multiple presentations on sport psychology to over 1,000 high school athletes and coaches at the Brevard Distance Runners Camp.
He is an instructor for the sport psychology section of the United States Track and Field Association (USATF) Cross Country Specialist coaching education course.
