San Luis Valley seniors can graduate with an Adams State University associates degree the same month they earn their high school diploma, through Concurrent Enrollment.  The Adams State Concurrent Enrollment Program continues this academic year.

Ashton Defaye, a senior at Del Norte High School, already earned 36 college credits since their freshman year, second semester. “I will graduate high school with my associates degree in business administration after only paying a few hundred dollars over the four years since I have started.”

The concurrent enrollment courses are transferable to any Colorado public college or university. “Advanced placement courses are great ways to boost your GPA however I feel that concurrent enrollment will help you go farther and faster,” added Defaye.

Concurrent enrollment students can earn college credits at a fraction of the cost of traditional college tuition, potentially saving thousands of dollars on their path to a bachelor’s degree. By completing college coursework during high school, students can reduce the time needed to complete their degree programs, further decreasing the overall cost of higher education.

“The Adams State Concurrent Enrollment program has been an invaluable resource for our students,” said Kristie Duran, counselor at Sanford Schools. “Students are able to earn college credits at minimal cost, with the opportunity to graduate with an associate’s degree the same year they finish high school. This helps them save money now and gives them a head start in completing their degree and entering the professional world.”

Adams State is dedicated to supporting San Luis Valley students and families and concurrent enrollment classes provide accessible pathways to higher education.

“We understand the challenges and opportunities that exist for students in rural Colorado,” said Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management Mark Buck. “Our concurrent enrollment program is designed specifically to serve San Luis Valley families by making college more affordable and accessible.”

To be eligible for the Concurrent Enrollment program, students must be approved by their high school and meet all pre-requisites, including minimum placement testing requirements, for each course they choose to take. The program offers a wide range of courses across multiple disciplines, allowing students to explore their academic interests while earning valuable college credit.

Students and families interested in the concurrent enrollment program should contact their high school counselor.
