Local Law Enforcement will trade in their handcuffs and badges for aprons at Chili’s restaurants in Colorado as part of the organization’s Tip A Cop campaigns benefitting Special Olympics. Special Olympics athletes will partner will officers at each location to greet guests, showcase their medals and accept donations from patrons.
The Adams State University Police Department, Alamosa Police Department, Alamosa Sheriff’s Department, and the Colorado State Patrol will participate in the Second Annual Chili’s Tip A Cop on Sunday, July 19.
The event will run from 12 noon until 8 p.m. with two shifts of coverage from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Alamosa Chili’s Restaurant. "This is a great event for all of our law enforcement agencies and supports a great charity, continuing our legacy of giving back to the community we serve," said Adams State Police Chief Paul Grohowski. "Basically we will work in conjunction with wait staff, filling water glasses, bringing meals to the tables. It gives our officers a great sense of pride and purpose within our community. It is actually a good deal of fun and great public relations for our university community too."
Supporting local and national causes like Special Olympics that promote health and welfare of families and citizens in local communities is an important part of the Chili’s culture. Chili’s recently established a relationship with Special Olympics Colorado.
Tip-A-Cop is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) campaign. LETR, which includes an international series of relay runs and special events like Tip-A-Cop®, is presented by more than 144,000 law enforcement officers worldwide to help raise money and public awareness for Special Olympics. LETR is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics through which funds raised go directly to local programs.
