David Bertolatus, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology, hosted the annual meeting of the Rocky Mountain Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry at Adams State University, May 8-9, 2025. The meeting brought together scientists from government, industry, and academia to share the latest research in environmental toxicology. Eight Adams State students participated in the meeting. Devin Walters and Nick Pieper won second place student poster award and Molly Chavez and Ellie Heiser won first place student poster award. On Friday, the group participated in a field trip, rafting on the Rio Grande and learning about the ecology of the local area.

Dana Maestas, grant specialist, received the 2025 Colorado Governor’s Arts and Community Action Award at a ceremony on May 2, in Grand Junction. Dana is a sixth-generation resident of the San Luis Valley, a Latina business owner and art consultant at Jacales Fine Art, a gallery in San Luis, Colo.
