The Adams State University Department of Music will offer a free eight-week music class for students in second and third grades, beginning Tuesday, March 26. Music 4 Kids will be held weekly at 4:30 p.m. in the Adams State Music Building room 117, through April 30.

This service learning project will provide a creative musical experience for children in the San Luis Valley community while allowing for observation and teaching opportunities for ASU music education majors. Tracy Doyle, Ph.D. professor of music, and students in her Elementary Music Methods course will lead the class in musical experiences influenced by the Dalcroze, Kodály, and Orff music education methodologies, all of which feature active learning and an experiential approach.

The class is open to the first 15 students who register and the course is free of charge. Due to the sequential nature of the material, the Music4Kids staff requests a commitment to all eight sessions. There will be an introductory meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in the Music Building room 117 for parents/guardians and students.
