The Adams State University Semillas de la Tierra program recently received a generous donation from Wings Credit Union. This contribution will help purchase additional traditional dance attire and support other program needs.
Semillas de la Tierra is a Mexican folklorico dance group founded in 1972 by Herman, PhD, Class of 1969 and Patsy, Class of 1970 and 1990, Martinez at Adams State University. Currently directed by Domingo Estrada, Class of 2003, their purpose is to share and celebrate the rich and diverse Mexican culture with students and community members through the art of traditional dances.
For more than 50 years, Semillas de la Tierra has prided itself on providing accessible folklorico classes free of charge to students and the San Luis Valley community. All of the funds raised through donations and performances are used to purchase costumes and supplies to expand the regions that are taught to each performing dance subgroup. Contributions to operate, direct, and sustain Semillas de la Tierra are voluntary to keep Herman and Patsy Martinez’s legacy alive generation after generation.
