Special Olympics Basketball Showcase is April 7

The Adams State University Human Performance and Physical Education (HPPE) Department sports facility and event management class will host a special exhibition basketball game, featuring Special Olympic athletes and Adams State student player partners.

The event, featuring the SLV Dust Devils, begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, in Plachy Hall.

Adams State students will partner with Special Olympics athletes to compete in a basketball game utilizing the Special Olympics Unified sports format. This program gives local athletes with special needs opportunities to compete and practice in sports with each other and with non-disabled peers.

Athletes and spectators will be able to take advantage of the exciting environment experienced in the gym. All students and members of the San Luis Valley community are welcome and encouraged to attend. The event is completely free. To add to the excitement, Adams State athletes will host a dunk contest at half-time.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes such as sports t-shirts, an Adams State football jersey, and goodie bags from the Adams State Athletic and HPPE Departments.

This event is a fundraiser for the SLV Special Olympics Program, with proceeds being used for supplies, equipment, and travel for the athletes.
