The Adams State University 2023 Spring Graduate Commencement Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Plachy Hall.

Arlina Yazzie will receive her master’s in public administration and will deliver the message from the Class of 2023. A pivotal moment in 2013, set Ms. Yazzie on a personal mission to help create positive change in her community. She has participated on a number of boards related to youth and families, implemented prevention programming, co-created the first suicide prevention coalition in Montezuma County through the Montezuma County Public Health Department, and served as a council member, and now is mayor pro tempore for the City of Cortez.

Presently, Ms. Yazzie is employed by the Center for Creative Leadership as the collective leadership initiative program manager, supporting a new Colorado-based leadership development program focused on health equity and emerging leaders who identify with historically underrepresented and underserved communities.

During the spring graduate commencement ceremony, Adams State will award 449 degrees including: 351 MA degrees; 41 MS; 46 MBA; and 11 Doctorate degrees. Mark Manzanares will serve as faculty marshal and Michele Lueck will deliver a greeting from the Board of Trustees. Music major Gem DeSimone will perform Autumn, by Aliyah Qualls, as the special music.
