Adams State Teacher Education faculty and staff and Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman welcome University of Siegen students and faculty on March 7The Siegen students and leaders visited several San Luis Valley school districts and participated in Adams State education courses. Most of the visiting students are planning to become elementary teachers in Germany and a couple are interested in the post-secondary level. Clara Köhne, said the visit is an opportunity to share teaching concepts with their Adams State counterparts. “We are also interested in how teachers are trained and will compare methods to learn from each other.”

Executive Director Ingo Witzke, Ph.D., first developed relationships with the San Luis Valley when he was a foreign exchange student at Sargent High School. He remains connected to the San Luis Valley and six years ago Adams State signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Siegen. This is the second group of students he has accompanied to Adams State. Witzke believes now is the time to connect on the international level with universities to bring perspectives on education into the future.
