Adams State University is located in the beautiful San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, and is the perfect place to study, work, and live. Adams State offers nearly 20 undergraduate academic programs at a radically affordable price with opportunities far and wide, from internships to clubs, sports, and surrounding mountainous adventure.

At Discover Day, you will learn more about Adams State University by interacting with current ASU students and professors, and will get a first hand look at ASU programs and services. We hope you’ll visit us to learn how you can begin your great story at Adams State!

Below is the agenda for the day:

  • 8:30am-9:15am: Check-In & Breakfast
  • 9:30am: Welcome Address
  • 10am: University Quick Looks at Majors (students)
    • Special guests from Colorado State University (CSU) Mechanical Engineering for the Mechanical Engineering session (more information below)
  • 10am: Financial Aid (families)
  • 11am: Student Ambassador Panel (students)
  • 11am: Transfer Student Panel (transfer students)
  • 11am: Student Services Panel (families)
  • 12pm: Campus Tour
  • 1:30pm: Lunch, Farewell, & Prizes
  • 4pm: Free tickets to ASU Men’s Lacrosse vs. Colorado Mesa (optional)

For this event, visitors are required to wear masks indoors on our campus.

More About Guests from CSU Mechanical Engineering

We are also excited to announce that at Discover Day we will have a session for our new Mechanical Engineering program, in partnership with CSU, and opportunities for students to talk with CSU Mechanical Engineering professors. In the new Mechanical Engineering program, students will be able to earn a highly sought-after CSU mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree from the Adams State University campus in Alamosa. Learn more about Mechanical Engineering at adams.edu/csume! Dr. Christian Puttlitz is the mechanical engineering department head at CSU. He is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Clinical Sciences, School of Advanced Materials Discovery, and School of Biomedical Engineering. He also serves as director of the Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory. In these roles, Dr. Puttlitz leads large personnel programs of over 70 researchers, staff and faculty, and manages multimillion dollar research and department budgets.

Dr. Sam Bechara is the Associate Department Head of Undergraduate Studies and an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CSU. Prior to his appointment at CSU, Dr. Bechara founded a technology company, Hyperion Labs, and worked as an AP Physics high school teacher and FIRST robotics coach in Tacoma, Washington. Most recently, he was the Assistant Chair and Lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering Department of the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University joint department.

Dr. Bonnie Roberts is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She’s taught classes including Thermal Fluid Systems, Numerical Methods, Programming Concepts, Experimental Fluid Mechanics, and Engineering Design.
