Adams State University Trustees have voted to keep in-state tuition and fee rates flat for undergraduate students for the 2019-20 academic year in their effort to keep Adams State among the most affordable schools in Colorado.

It’s the fourth consecutive year ASU Trustees have voted to not increase in-state tuition.

Separately, the college ranking web site Study.com released its research that showed Adams State is the most affordable university in Colorado among the universities it reviewed and the 48th most affordable the nation.

“We considered thousands of colleges when ranking schools for this list and selected Adams State University based on its economical tuition costs and availability of financial aid and work-study, as well as its career and academic resources for students, graduation rates, and facilities and programs offered,” said Kathryn Jorawsky of Study.com.

In its research, Study.com also noted that Adams State’s tuition policy allows on-campus students to take up to 20 credit hours per semester and only pay for 12.

“This school has a range of ways for students to save on tuition,” the web site administrators said. “It offers over 100 scholarships with an average award of $12,000 and a variety of financial aid options (91% of the students here receive some form). Adams offers guaranteed tuition, which locks in a student’s cost for four years, and a tuition window, which allows students to take up to 20 credit hours and only pay for 12.”

Tuition and fee rates for fulltime students, fall 2019-20:

  • Colorado residents, per semester: $4,719.78.
  • Non-residents, per semester: $7,931.78.
  • Non-resident Western Undergraduate Exchange, per semester: $7,671.78.

Adams State offers in-state tuition to New Mexico residents and has discounted tuition for students in Texas, Arizona and California.

Other action taken by the Trustees:

Three new bachelor’s degrees were approved. They are B.A. in Media Industry Communication; B.A. in Communication and Media; B.A. in Public Relations. The degrees are set up to meet growing demand in the job market for media and communications professionals, said ASU Professor Beth Bonnstetter, Ph.D.
