Welcome! College is an incredible journey, but it can also be challenging to navigate. Whether you’re dealing with the stress of a new semester, feeling homesick, managing relationships, or just feel like something is “off,” you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
The Counseling Center is a safe, confidential, and supportive resource for all students. Our professional counselors are here to listen and help you explore solutions that work for you.
We can help with things like:
- Managing stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed
- Adjusting to college life in Alamosa
- Exploring your personal identity
- Navigating relationship challenges with friends, partners, or family
- Exploring your relationship with alcohol or other substances
- Developing healthy ways to manage frustration and anger
- Improving your focus and motivation
- Support through the loss of a loved one
- Anything else that’s on your mind—no issue is too small.
Your conversations here are completely confidential. Seeking support is a sign of strength, and we’re here to help you succeed, both in your classes and in your life.
How we can Help
Our services are designed to fit the unique needs of college students. We specialize in short-term, goal-oriented counseling, helping you build skills and gain perspective to navigate the immediate challenges of college life. If you need longer-term or more specialized care, we will work closely with you to connect you with the right resources in the community.
All of our services are confidential and available to enrolled students.
Counseling & Therapy
- One-on-One Counseling: This is your space. Meet confidentially with a professional counselor to talk through anything on your mind—from managing stress and anxiety to navigating life changes and exploring your identity.
- Immediate Support (Crisis Counseling): For urgent concerns. If you are in a crisis or need to speak with someone immediately during business hours, please call or come in.
- Group Counseling & Support: Connect with peers who get it. Our groups provide a safe and confidential setting to share experiences and learn new skills around topics like anxiety, grief, and healthy relationships.
- Couples & Relationship Counseling: For any two students in a relationship (partners, roommates, etc.) looking to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and build a healthier connection.
- Family Support Sessions: We can help you navigate family-related stress and improve communication with family members.
Wellness & Support Services
- Mental Health Screenings: A quick, confidential way to check in on your emotional well-being. A screening can help you understand what you’re feeling and learn about next steps and support options.
- Acudetox (Acupuncture for Stress Relief): A simple and effective ear acupuncture treatment that can help reduce stress, anxiety, and improve sleep. It’s a quiet, relaxing group session—no talking required.
- Consultation for Friends & Family: Worried about a friend, roommate, or family member? We can provide guidance and support on how to help someone you care about.
Community & Prevention
- Skill-Building Workshops: Throughout the semester, we host workshops on popular topics like mindfulness, test anxiety, time management, and more. Check our calendar for upcoming events!
- Campus Events & Outreach: We partner with groups across campus to promote well-being, raise awareness about mental health, and connect students with resources.
