Overview

We are excited to announce that our campus is upgrading from Banner 8 to Banner 9. This new release delivers a number of important enhancements, including a modern user interface, enhanced navigation and process management tools, and new functionality across the student, HR and finance functions. It will also give us greater flexibility, as we will be able to run Banner on any browser and on mobile devices. There is no need to learn a new application, just the new interface.

Why are we upgrading to Banner 9?

Ellucian will be ceasing support for our current Banner 8 system on December 31, 2018, requiring us to upgrade to Banner 9.

What is changing?

We know that you may have concerns about what will change. We have been working closely with Ellucian to understand and anticipate those changes. To date, most of the feedback that other institutions have provided indicates that getting used to the new interface and navigation takes minimal effort (like an update to the interface for Gmail).

What is the timeline?

The move to Banner 9 will be made in phases. Work has been under way for the last year, with a target for completion of early July 2018. We will be reaching out to offices and departments as soon as we are ready for testing.

We are upgrading the administrative modules first, so there will be little to no impact on our students and faculty. The second phase will be upgrading the self-service applications, which will be later this year and will provide enhancements to our students and faculty.

Training and Resources

Will there be training?

Yes. Navigational training sessions will be offered in the near future, as well as more targeted sessions with members of the Banner Team. Details will be forthcoming.

Ellucian also offers additional training via videos, webinars, and self-paced on-demand banner courses, which are accessible with an Ellucian HUB (“eHUB”) account. Sign up for your free eHUB account at: https://ellucian.okta.com.

Will additional resources be available?

Yes. Additional training materials and resources — including videos, how-to’s, screenshots, and other materials — are available in the Banner 9 Google Team Drive, which you’ll access via your Adams State account as a BUGs (Banner Users Group) member.
