Mission

Participants, members, and customers of ASAP have support for achieving their adventure recreation goals.

History

In 1925, Luther Bean took a group of Adams State students to the summit of Blanca Peak, establishing the Outdoor Club. For many years, the club was the most popular on campus, and many wrote of their fond memories of the outdoor club excursions.

The Adventure Program continues to evolve in its size and scope with the primary aim being to enrich the college experience of Adams State students. The Adventure Program provides services both for ASU and the general public. Don’t let another fun, challenging, and unique experience pass you by. Great stories do begin here!

Adventure Leadership & Programming Minor & Apprenticeship

Designed as a rigorous leadership development program, the Adventure Leadership Programming (ALP) Minor & Apprenticeship was established to provide highly motivated ASU students the opportunity to gain significant leadership experience and mentorship in an intentional, challenging, and dynamic context. The ALP Minor & Apprenticeship is about developing character, competence, and craftsmanship, which we believe are the hallmarks of genuine leadership. Students will gain extensive teaching and leadership experience through designing and leading diverse programs including backpacking, rock and ice climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, paddle sports, and climbing wall and challenge course programs. For students interested in adventure based employment and careers, this program offers the foundation necessary to become competent outdoor leaders.
