“There are lots of students in the San Luis Valley who, because of family or financial situations, can’t leave the valley to come up to Fort Collins and get their engineering degree,” said Christian Puttlitz, CSU department head and professor of mechanical engineering.
“…Taking a year off did not pose as much of a challenge as much as it instilled a sense of excitement about being competitive and putting the pads on to face an opponent again.”
“We do a lot of research and adjust our emphases and degrees to match skills needed in the workforce.”
“I found the physical activity to be very beneficial to me physically and mentally,” said Barbara Kolupke.
The tradition and spirit have continued, and Spud Bowl remains a highlight of each football season.
“I thought, maybe I better make something of my life. Maybe I need to go to college,” he said.
“Grizzly pride means no one gets left behind.”

“I feel fortunate that I had some wonderful professors in each of the fields of study that I pursued and these professors inculcated that knowledge which allowed me to be prepared as a teacher.”
“As soon as I started the classes, I fell in love with it,” she recalls.
